"Pioneering Women's Training in Bangladesh"

The Women Agricultural Training Center(WATC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was the first of its kind in South Asia.

The Center was established in 1988 through an agreement between the Bangladesh and Japanese Goverments. The courses are run by OISCA, and each year dozens of young rural women recieve six-month of training in organic farming, industrail sweing, and health related subjects. The women leave the Center with more confidence and better opportunitites for the future.

A follow-up study (2003) by a professional institution concluded that the "responses indicate overwhelming positive impact" on such "various social aspect" as income, confidence, child health care, nutritional intake, and family planning.

The Bangladesh Goverment has already established four other such centers using the WATC as a model.
