Reforestation Project in Hong Kong

Reforestation Project in Hong Kong OISCA Hong Kong, in cooperation with OISCA Hong Kong Kindergarten, has organized tree-planting programs over the past years, with OISCA members, children, and parents. The program improves the environment and teaches children the importance of forests and conservation of nature. New actors from the Japanese community in Hong Kong were invited to join in the OISCA projects and a new project "Hong Kong Sai Kung Forestation Five Year Project" was launched in May 2001. Under the guidance of Hong Kong Natural Resource Protection Office, the first tree-planting event in the program was organized in Sai Kung on May 2, 2001. Volunteers from OISCA Hong Kong and other organizations planted about 300 plum trees. Later, this site was turned into a forest-park, named "Sai Kung Lovely Forest."

One of main partners in the project was OISCA Hong Kong Love Green Club, comprised mostly of Japanese residents in Hong Kong. It is necessary for volunteers of all nationalities to take part in this activity to protect and restore forests. The OISCA International volunteer involvement has been very successful. Children especially enjoy the event, in that that they share the experience of conserving natural resources, and have direct contact with nature.
